My name is Tyler Farnham. I grew up in Cocoa beach, Florida. My dad started pushing me into the waves when I was three years old. That’s when I started to have this feeling of adrenaline and endorphins of doing something that was fun and active as a little child. I grew up surfing and of course skateboarding followed after that. When I got a bit older I started to do skydiving and it also became another big passion in my life.

My life was really nice back then. I had this really cool active lifestyle. I began lifeguarding and had a really nice girlfriend but it turned around so quick. I experienced a fatal accident during skydiving. I had five days in a medical induced coma. While I was in the middle of recovering from this horrible accident, the girl that I loved left me. During that time I became dependent on the medication and I found myself very depressed. That’s when I decided to leave the US to feel better about myself again. I have been outside for a while now and I wrote books based on my story.

My name is Ian MacLeod a co-founder of Nirvana Strength and also the head coach here. I have been in Asia for almost 13 years and two and a half years Bali specifically. Teaching has always been a part of me. We started Nirvana strength about three years ago.

Teaching has always been a big part of my life. It is something that I have been wanting to do for a long time. Then the opportunity came to open up this gym in Bali where I really be able to focus on teaching in something specific that I really have passion about.

This gym and in everything that we do here is encompasses basically my entire philosophy about what we have been doing with regards to health, wellness, creating a culture that helps promote growth. It’s more individualistic and customized to the people that come here. That’s the main idea and goal.

International travel to Bali was not something that I thought was ever going to be in my life. Where I came from, Los Angeles, in my head that time it was the thing that only rich people do. I was always sort of working to get comfortable to have enough and just being content.

I was working a lot and beginning to achieve the things that I wanted to achieve. I was rising through the levels that I wanted to rise to. I was kind of getting the things I wanted to get on a certain level. When I was 21, I would have done unspeakable things to be able to achieve what I had and I was not still satisfied.

Somehow, in the late 20s, I got the chance to visit my best friend in Bali. There I was struck by that outpouring of genuine kindness from the Balinese and just that care for one another. That genuine interest of service to another person for no sort of recourse or reward or anything just being kind to people for the sake of being kind. These are why I decided to stay and work here.

I’m from the United States. I grew up in Seattle, Washington and then I lived for many years in a place called Santa Barbara, California. In 1984 long time ago I left the states. I traveled around the world for two years and then I moved to Paris. I was in Paris for seven years full time and then decided to see a bit more of the world. So I started working in the international schools. My first job was in Jakarta. I worked at Jakarta International School and then I went to Ecuador, Nepal, China, and Azerbaijan. Then I decided to find a place to settle. Bali was just one of the place I looked at and it just happened. Everything worked out when I came to look at Bali. I call it a series of fortunate events.

I came here to open a yoga house. Many people doubted me when first opened. But I believe in myself and I believe on this place. Because why would anyone not want to do Yoga here. It’s beautiful and surrounded with the ricefields.

Hi my name is Don Carlo Klaus and I’m the general manager here at Bali MMA. I am born and raised in Rochester, New York. I do a little bit everything here, I do some coaching, kind of run in the front of house and just making sure all the operations are running smoothly.

When I was really young me, I don’t think MMA had existed. I grew up wrestling competing in the us and did that through university. When I finished uni, this is when I started getting into MMA because I still had a desire to compete and to train.

I moved to Bali in August and we opened Bali MMA in October of 2014. So I have been here for almost 6 years now. I was living in Thailand where I was working at another gym in Thialand similar style of gym coaching wrestling and MMA. I spent about a year there working with my other two partners here Anthony and Andrew Leone. Then we met our Indonesian partner Steve, the four of us decided to build a destination training gym in Bali. So we all moved to Bali and opened the gym.

I was born in Kentucky in the United States. Growing up was great there. I think it’s one of the best places to raise a family. I have really good memories from home.

I thought the key to happiness was to work your butt off academically and just study. In my society I was told to work hard and you will be successful. I took that too seriously and by the time I graduated with my bachelor I burned out and needed a break. So I decided to live the US to seek something new.

I went to spain and lived ther for two years. I loved being outside my comfort zone and just experiencing a new culture. Just being in Spain I could not just walk to Walmart and buy easy mac, ramen noodles or the instant processed food. That’s when I started to cook more and discovered food.

During my travel, I met people who influenced me to eat healthier food. I was more aware of plant-based and Bali is such a hub of vegan food. That’s one of the reason why I came here.
