Right before Christmas, my team and I went out for a company movie day, and to my pleasant surprise, watching “Sing” the animation gave me insights I didn’t see coming.
In my 12 years of working in this industry, I ended last year hitting my rock bottom.
Back in 2013 when I decided to move back to Indonesia, I knew it’s a leap-of-faith. I brought along with me a huge vision and dream, a dream to make a difference in storytelling industry. And to realize that vision, I knew I needed a strong team, one who share my same passion. However, starting everything from zero was not what I did not expect if I am in Australia. But it’s never an easy feat with young minded people in Indonesia. So far I’ve always believed that the best is yet to come. I never gave up, not without a fight. However, this time around, I almost lost it.
I started 2016 with such a low confidence. I felt my time was up. It was the first time in 4 years that I felt like I made a huge mistake returning to Indonesia.
There were two quotes during the dark time that reminded me to that period of my life, “What does not kill me, it makes me stronger.” and “You know what’s great about hitting rock bottom, there’s only one way left to go, and that’s up!”
I honestly teared up when Eddie heartened Buster to get back up from his failure. Like Buster, I’m not alone. This year, I proved I came back with the help of my people, those who daily work hard of keeping up with me and making it happened.
Looking back to the past year, there are some awesome storytelling pieces we produced in 2016, there are some achievements I couldn’t even dream of when I entered this year, knowing how I started the year. And I have my team to thank for all these. For a whole year I witnessed the growth, passion, and the heart they put in their works. Not only I deeply appreciate each and everyone of you, you’ve become my confidence entering the new year of 2017.
I’m glad I didn’t give up. I’m glad I pushed through.
Because today I can say, 2016 has been the best year since I’ve been in Indonesia.
Thank you team! I know we still have a lot to do together. But as I’ve always believed, the best is yet to come!
